Katomeri is a characterful traditional village and is the administrative centre of Meganisi. Located on the hill less than 1 km above the village of Vathy, its hilltop position affords panoramic views of the island and across to the island of Kalamos and the mountains of mainland Greece beyond. For an evening stroll, the road from Vathy to Katomeri has a pavement and is well-lit.

If you walk around the village in the late afternoon, you will see the local women doing their embroidery in the courtyards or by the roadside. Some even sell their work so you can take home a little piece of traditional Meganisi.

 

Amid the maze of narrow streets, vibrantly colourful flowers decorate the traditional stone houses and you will find supermarkets, gift shops, tavernas, bars & cafés to allow you to absorb the amiable atmosphere of the village. Katomeri also has a butcher (just outside the village) and a hardware shop as well as a pharmacy, doctor's surgery and the town hall.
